Our WHY

Clutch DNA was designed with the belief that sports are the ultimate tool for teaching self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and connection with others. As a global language, sports naturally engage youth and create a safe space to explore identity, values, and relationships.

Inspired by his extensive background as a teacher, educator, and former athlete, Coach Jo Jo created Clutch DNA to be a culturally responsive tool that makes it easier to have honest, often uncomfortable conversations with students about who they are and who they're becoming. The curriculum uses the power of sports to help students develop life-ready skills, build confidence, and lead with purpose—both on and off the field.

The Framework

Sports doesn't just teach games—they teach people how to be CLUTCH in life. Every practice, every game, builds Confidence, Leadership, and Understanding of oneself. Tenacity, Character, and prioritizing Health are naturally embedded. Every challenge shapes people for the real world. That's what CLUTCH DNA is all about—it's more than a game. It's a mindset that prepares young people to win not just in sports, but in school, relationships, careers, and life itself.

When we teach students to be CLUTCH, we're giving them the tools to rise under pressure and lead with purpose. Clutch DNA is the transformative curriculum schools need for grades 6–12, combining the power of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) with the universal language of sports to equip students for success in school, sports, and life. By teaching students to Decide, Navigate, and Adjust under pressure, Clutch DNA develops confidence, resilience, leadership, emotional intelligence, and character—critical skills that drive academic achievement, positive behavior, and mental health.

Designed to engage even the most hard-to-reach students through relatable, culturally responsive content, Clutch DNA empowers young people to thrive in the classroom, in their sport, and in their communities. This evidence-based approach helps schools improve climate and culture, reduce disciplinary issues, and prepare students to lead with purpose—making it an essential investment in the next generation of leaders.
